High-level overview of the process I invented to make fundable decks

I enable you to present a compelling investment thesis.

1. Questionnaire

  • You fill in a questionnaire which surfaces what’s unique about your fund
  • Critically review the fundamentals again without the pressure of being on the phone with me

2. Narrative creation and slide mapping

  • I construct a narrative for your pitch based on the questionnaire focused on explaining your investment thesis
  • I draft map out the slides I think you should probably include to kick things off
  • We get on a 3-hour call and discuss the investment thesis first, then if there are other mini-narratives to make (e.g. ‘value add’ etc)

3. Full deck mapping

  • We fully map your deck on what you need to communicate with prospective LPs
  • Review slide examples. VC decks are more tricky than startups’. We will go through slide examples and discuss what  to include
  • Once you agree on the definitive slide list, you gain certainty about how much work needs to be done. If we map out 22 slides, there are 22 home-work tasks to complete till this nightmare is over!

4. Slide population

  • Deck is populated. Each slide makes one key point. I help you figure out the most intelligent way to prove a statement, ideally supported with data (which makes you credible in any claim, not "trust me")
  • You need to do your homework to answer  LP questions. I will tell you what to do but you need to fill in the details since you have to be the expert
  • Light support is provided for research when you are stuck

5. Leverage templates and examples

  • Slide template. For many slides, I have templates we can just fill in or tweak (e.g. fund terms)
  • VC deck examples. In addition, I have some examples of VC pitch decks to be inspired from which helps a lot

6. Coaching

  • During the process I'll be making jokes and take breaks to teach you advanced concepts in fundraising
  • At the end of the deck process, I will spend some time with you going through next steps, so you understand how to reach out to investors the right way, build confidence, how you will pitch, and anything you are stressed out about (reasonably!)

8. Completion

  • Deck done. When you have provided all the information, your deck will be finalized in 4 hours
  • Final review. Once you are happy with the deck, we will go through slide by slide, critique, wordsmith, add extra data points, and ensure everything is investment banking level perfect
